Adhering urethane armor to neoprene bodysuit ????

O.K. fellas,

I've searched like mad in archives here and at the BOTB, and still cannot find a satisfactory solution.

I've been told urebond would be the ultimate, but takes much to long to cure. Superglue seems to be the general go to glue for this type of mount, but which one exactly ? I've used loctite gel for other applications, but can only find it in VERY small containers with a heavy price tag. I've also used other hobby related superglue gels that unfortunately dry with a white residue.

After hearing about zap a gap, I went to their website, and found another product called "zap goo" which they claim will adhere ANYTHING just like their zap a gap, but remaining flexible.

Has anyone tried this "zap goo" ?? Or does anyone have the name of a superglue gel that works best for mounting armor ??

I've got some time before I attempt this next mount, so I'm just getting my feelers out there to find the most advice I can.

I know aquaseal does a great job and remains as flexible as if it were not there. It also takes awhile to cure thought(2 hours with the Cotol accelerator). I hope to hear more about the Zap a gap goo. Since you have some time, maybe get a small one and test on some scrap pieces :luck:

If I had some scrap urethane, I would for sure....unfortunately I don't. Maybe when the armor comes, I'll use the scraps after trimming to test.

I was told aquaseal won't adhere to urethane very well
hmmmm...

A combination of the two might also work. Small amounts of superglue to hold it in place and the slower curing urethane glue to do the majority of the work. I used this method to attach some of the TDK suit before moving onto the full urethane glue and LOT of rubber bands.

i got a recommendation from K.B. when i put my suit together : Great Planes Pro CA Gel. It cures in minutes. Seemed to work pretty well.

I second this. My Begins suit (except for the foam legs of course) was glued using that super glue. It worked great and has a very strong hold.

Looks like the Great Planes glue comes in thin, medium, or thick versions. I'd assume the thicker the better. Anyone have an idea ?? Maybe KB can shine the light !!

(EDIT)

Also, if I picked up the 2 oz. bottles, how many do you think I'd need for an entire glue up?

I got the "ultra thick" Gel ... i bought two 1 ounce bottles, and that was more than enough.
