Cheer up buddy, go have a beer and have a look at the "costume chicks" thread in AG.

quote:

If people were banned simply because I, or some other Mod didn't like them, we'd have a very small board and about 90% of the members would be "in the cornfield."

Interesting opinion you guys have on 90% of your membership.

quote:

Truth is, Inferno you violated the TOS the first time by posting something for trade outside the trade section. The second time you used the phrase "trade value," which blatantly means money, cash American, filthy lucre, whatever you want to call it. That got you a 30-day respite. You went ballistic, posted a thread in the main forum, said the rules were stupid and blah, blah, blah, and in general went bitchcakes. You also personally insulted another mod in your tirade and then moved on to another mod in your own insidious way. You flamed the staff at the BOTB for following the rules which you agreed to when you joined the community and continued to insult and flame until you were finally banned. As for your "smear" alligations, I am a mod over there and Tim never called me about you in any way. Why in the world would he call anyone who couldn't make a decision on your membership at the forum? Everyone who had anything to do with your banning met in The Belfry to discuss what was going on. Any information you got from people who "were called" is circumspect at best and not true at the worst.

blah blah blah... I have seen many since do the same thing , (use the term trade value), before me, and since my exit, without repercussion. Tim made phone calls, lots of them, those who received them are reading this you know.

quote:

If you had simply waited out the 30-day ban and played nice with everyone none of this would've happened.

If you can't handle the truth, that's okay. I'm sure people here will listen to you and your revisionist history.

Ok, at this point your post is becoming a tedious, homogenised, chameleon-esque scribble, which amounts to nothing more than the demented cacophonous racket of a drugged lunatic banging loudly on kitchen pots and pans. "You can't handle the truth son!!"

quote:

Instead you started your own forum. That's fine and all. It's what everyone seems to do when they leave or get kicked out of the BOTB.

I suppose I should not have started a forum, but instead simply accepted your judgement and went away, and I should have found another hobby huh.You couldn't get a clue during clue mating season in a field of clues if you smeared your body in musk and did the clue mating dance, could you? If you knew what you're talking about, you might be dangerous.

quote:

This was more than likely AFTER you sent emails to most everyone connected with the administration of the BOTB begging to be let back in. Yes, I wrote begging because you did just that.

Finally, a statement with some substance that is actually deserving of a semi-emotional response. As I said above, it did sting to get the boot, and it stung more to have you jerk-offs label me, and judge me before getting to know me.

Following the advice of some friends I had made there, I did write several emails to the "circle", and thouroughly apologized for insulting Tim and Jedi. I also pleaded my case, and tried to offer up the notion that I was not all the evil I was made out to be.

I am sure those emails asking for a second chance provided much humour to the cirlce, in fact they likely made you guys horny and climax all over eachother. Protein!!

So ya, you whores targeted me, and banned me. I was hurt not only from the banning, but from the labeling, and instead of accepting my apology and giving a second chance, you're here now presenting that knowledge in an effort to improve your image. Well done. If brains were dynamite, you wouldn't have enough to blow the kneecap off a flea.

quote:

I really don't spend any time thinking about this place to be honest.

Right.......if you say so

quote:

There is an elitist vibe here. Some members seem to think that unless you can trade whatever is asked for when it comes to a suit that was pulled from a mold made while Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, or Bale was wearing said suit makes you somehow less of a fan. That's just wrong and short-sighted. I read an entire post that seemed to be laced with criticisms, misspelled words, and sentence fragments about how only the author's suit which was being worn by someone in the pictures which were posted along with it could be considered worhtwhile. And it asked what Bats were doing lying in the sun? Obviously having a bit of a laugh. Batman poolside is something you wouldn't ever see. Of course, it required having a sense of humor to understand things like this. Also, the poster got you to close the post so no comments could be made. Yes, we wouldn't want anyone's opinion to be challenged, would we? When I'm out as the Bat and a child yells, "BATMAN!!" and runs up to me it really doesn't matter if I have a Rubies suit on or something I've traded for and put together on my own. That's what counts...not the endless circle jerk over nipple sizes or how someone fails in their costuming because a small portion of the area where cowl meets cape can be seen separating. Who gives a rat's ass? Only someone who earns their own self-worth through the belittlement of others, that's who. My Dad used to call these people "killjoys." They suck all the fun out of life for others so they can have fun. It's almost like being at the Algonquin Round Table to read these mighty opinions. And by "almost" I mean not at all.

Believe it or not, I understand what you are saying here, and I do not disagree with all of it. Jay is an asshole, but he makes nice !@#$ and actually helps people out, believe it or not. His arrogance is only annoying if you take what he says personally, he normally does not get personal, just gives his honest opinion. Not my style or yours, but if I banned him for it, I would be just like you.....*cringe* btw, that is a nice suit isn't it?

quote:

The people I associate with on the Bat boards are some of the finest people anywhere. We don't agree on everything...it'd be a boring place if we did...even when it comes to banning people. I pity the day when I have debates on how you must strike a pose in your suit or it is lame and you have failed. Not that it's anyone's business over here, but there are always long and involved discussions over banning anyone. Even when we banned Janty--for the SECOND time. Or his close friend and Bat-buddy the first and only time.

The Bat costume community is a small one. A lot of people who were staples when I first arrived are now choosing not to be a part of it because of the drama and elitism. How many billions of people in the world now--6.8? And the BOTB has 2,260 members as I write this...including your sock puppet account. Places like this only make it smaller.

The only thing worth acknowledging in this heaping pile of verbal diahreha is your mention of a "sock" account. Shocking revelation Sherlock, you got me. How about the other 5 accounts I have there too, and the 500 spies I have implanted over at the brotherhood, so I can keep tabs on everything....and I mean ev-er-y-thing....*insert evil laugh here*.

quote:

And stuffier.

Would someone please open a window? Some fresh air needs to blow through this place.

Ahh yes, the parting shot. Maybe I could tell you that this is the place of fresh air, and you simply do not recognize it because you are used to the scent of Tims ball sack on your brow. Or maybe I should tell you that you are in the Cave, of course there is no fresh air in a Cave stupid. Or maybe I should just say that I am pretty much done talking to you and your little crony friends. You can post here all you want, I may or may not acknowledge it, but I can assure you I won't ban you because you have an opinion on me, or this site. It doesn't bother me at all, you and your buddies hurt me once, and that will never happen again.

Wow--just wow. I have been put in my place, haven't I?

You couldn't be civil and try to defend yourself, could you? Nah, that's too tough. It's easier to make dick jokes. Yeah, that's some funny stuff. Like how that signature has Batman and some generic blonde chick. Hi-lar-ious!

It's easy to make fun of people when you sit behind a keyboard. Notice I didn't take any shots at you. I simply pointed out the silliness of this topic. I can take shots at you if you wish. I've been doing this a long time and I'm really good at it.

Honestly, I don't care. You've got your little bullshit corner of the internet here and your buddies who think it's the place to be! "Hey look, naked women!!" "Wow...boobs!!" Yep. That's some highbrow stuff.

Why do you even want to mention the BOTB? To put it in language you will understand, you must have a hard-on for someone over there. Or something. Why don't you just "keep it real" here, which is your goal, right?

So much posturing...over pieces of molded rubber.

Oh, yeah...the "trade value" comment. People get warned for that all the time. When we see it. I'm not able to sit in front of my computer all day and read every single post in the trade section. Topics gets cut, moved, hidden, whatever when it happens. 5% of the members again causing 95% of the problems again. But you don't have that here, where things are kept real!

When you're a Bat, you're a Bat for life...

The 90% figure comes from being hyperbolic in the post. Like any club, job, or group, 95% of your problems come from 5% of your people.

If you want the best suit, I don't care. But the elitist vibe comes from thinking there is only one way to do it or one person to trade with or if it isn't exactly screen accurate to frame #17,984 then it isn't worth spit. That the movie suits are the ones to have. And if you don't have them well then you aren't worth the time of day. And if you do have a repro, and it isn't from some well-known sculptor or recast from a screen-used piece then you aren't worth the time of day. And your suit sucks, too.

If you're good at something that's fine. I'm a damn good actor. But I don't act like it when I'm with people who aren't. I don't direct them or point out what they're doing is wrong or how my performance is worthy of being on a stage and the one they are giving isn't. Who the hell would want to work with me? I might offer them tips, but only after talking to the director and doing it privately. Or showing them a bit in the middle of rehearsal after getting permission. Because if you behanve like the first way I mention you are seen as an elitist asshole. I also don't act like the cat's meow when I'm with people who are better actors than me. Because I want to work with them and learn something new.

Sure, you were suspended. Like anyone else. And when the 30 days was up, you were able to post again. Even if banned, people can read the BOTB. I see banned members all the time in the masthead. You didn't get special treatment.

I said Tim didn't call me and he didn't. I asked why in the world he would call anyone about a matter which concerned the admins. I said any information from these people was "circumspect at best and not true at worst." If he called you, he called you.

And finally...because I have a show and have to cut this short...perception is everything. You may not think to yourself, "I'm not an elitist asshole," but when you post things like "Look What I Invented!" and then proceed to get pissed when other members point out that you didn't and then add on top of that that, "Oh, even _______ has done it," what do you think that sounds like?

Hey, I just wrote a book about a guy who takes his family to an abandoned hotel for the winter. Turns out the hotel is haunted and he goes crazy and stalks them. I can't wait to submit it to a publisher! Look at what a great writer I am. The plot is amazing!! It's the single best piece of literature ever and just might change reading as we know it today!!!

Huh, well...I've heard that even Stephen King has done that. And there have been two filmed versions of it. Still, I didn't know. And mine is still better!

See- parts of this could be aimed at me, so I suppose ill take it as directed at me. I cant say that I feel it was posted with out offense intended- So ill answer accordingly.

I dont really care what suits others have Or who made them. Uhm, the elitist in me would rather them NOT have the same suit. I dont judge peoples worth by their wallet, their ability to create or how they look in a batsuit. So- your second paragraph is a bit hollow.

I do judge people based on how they interact with ME first and foremost, and second- with others.

Your "and finally" paragraph. Ha. Really, all I should post is Ha. BUT- the devil on my shoulder is nudging me on...

Yep, i posted that. I was pretty amped up about it. See, since I came on the scene, i have always understood that latex and urethane dont mix. So I tried something and I dunked it. I have a VERY light weight version of a heavy urethane piece. I posted this- and people came in and said it was nothing new.

Nobody got pissed, I laughed about it for days. Douche was I. Only after some asshole trolls piped up with their NEGATIVITY-- the same people who contribute NOTHING to our society- and NO ONE stepped up to correct it, did i get a little abrasive.

and the Artsy comment, was taken out of context. It wasnt a poke at him- as if his stuff is inferior.. it WAS a POKE AT ME because it is on his website- clear as day.

Once again, a reading comprehension problem.

But thank you again, for telling me how you feel. I took the I go to 11 from our last conversation- and, Im not going to lie- I use it regularly. I DO go to 11. Everything I do, is at 11.

And im sorry-- did you say MY suit sucks somewhere in there??? or was that just like a lumped in comment about the elitist persona??

Its okay to think it sucks, but, its my best effort and im proud of it.
I guess gold to one (or many) could be junk to another..

I suppose thats- not- really a poke at me, so much as a poke at dullam, or- uhm.. others involved in the parts that went into it.. so i just kind of shake my head in confusion at that.... little uncalled for

Can't you just make 10 louder? I never said anything about you going to "11." I have had precious little interaction with you on the boards except to say once I liked the belt progress and other times to remind you to keep it civil.

How else would I expect you to take the entire post except to be aimed at you? It wasn't. Only the last 1/3 with the "I Invented..." The universe doesn't revolve around you, Keith. But you demonstrate an attitude from an altitude that provokes people. And I believe you delight in it, while hiding behind a, "What, me? Why I never!" facade.

See what I have meant all along about perception and intent?

Also for your information, I did close thread after people took shots at you. I would do that for ANY member. I can't very well close it before people take pot shots at each other, can I? I and the other mods work our collective asses off on the BOTB to help make it a welcoming, friendly place. A lot of us have been there for a long time. I haven't been there since the beginning, but I was close.

I don't think anyone's suit sucks if they put forth an honest effort with the materials they have on hand. A little reading comprehension might help you there. I was speaking in the voice of a generic critical member who wouldn't give anyone the time of day if the had not ponied up the dough for pieces from only the finest sculptors/Bat shop recasts/Bob's molds/whatever. As a final tag, the generic member would say, "Your suit sucks, too." Perhaps I might have phrased it better. What I do think sucks is when new members show up having purchased molds from whatever source with the sole intent to "set up shop." The only things you have offered have been the belt and undersuits. I have heard nothing bad about the undersuits. A fair generic item which fits well offered at a fair value. You have worked on the belt time and time again to get it like you wish and I have never seen one in person or spoken at length to anyone who may have traded for one.

You've been around this and other hobbies a long time and know the ins and outs of sfx. If I am not mistaken you came up through some model-making forums? I flat out refuse to believe you had never heard of the urethane and latex being used together.

Comments uncalled for? You should look no further than your leader and the things he wrote to me. I present my points in a civil manner and am met with dick jokes. Yes, the hilarity! Ah...

It's not a "Steel Cage Death Match," you know. It's a damn Batman costume. Something we wanted as children. Now as adults we can achieve that. Still we continue to behave like children.

Re: THE CAVE FOR DUMMIES

On my eyes, I didnt think it would work when I did it (latex skinned urethane). Before early 2008,i had never scratch built any model, never poured silicon, never sculpted, never used resin/urethane/latex. I HONESTLY thought i was the first to try that. I mean, its such a cool combo, i dont know why it isnt used more??? ASIDE from that=

I come from an RC racing background. I have built models, when i was a kid. I have built CARS since I have been older. But everything i do- I do at 11. I have won national championships, I have had corporate sponsorships... all because I dont stop until i can sit back and say I feel I have had success.

And parts of that post WERE aimed at me, I am a pretty good reader, and I can tell when and where something is aimed.

If that Your suit sucks comment wasnt aimed at me ( i didnt actually think it was), Your correct, you could have worded it better.

No no, 11 is where its at. 10 is for those who are afraid to break free of the mold.

Comments uncalled for= I was speaking to you, and only you. What you and jeff say to each other, is between you and Jeff. I only spoke up because I took exception to some of the things you wrote. Jeff has his hands full with a new kid and I didnt want untruths to go un argued.

I have no hard feelings toward you, but I do disagree with some of the stuff you posted. Nothing more.

Re: THE CAVE FOR DUMMIES

you know, I'm reading this on my laptop, in a cafe right now, at 11:20 pm... just looking at this mess unfold, people just finally expressing what they've kept for themselves for probably a while...I haven't read every post, far from it, I don't think I have the patience or attention span. Still I read enough to just share this:

We're here because we share a common interest. We take part in creative artistic activities, if you will. The more popular this place gets (I'm including BOTB here), the less chance we'll agree with everyone. Its impossible. So here we are in front of the inevitable: we still enjoy bat related stuff, but sometimes some of you can't stand one another. It can't be avoided, and that will never change. Its human nature. There's no easy solution here, but one has to be found, as imperfect it may be, or this place will implode.

These boards have a formal code of conduct, and that's fine, its necessary. What we tend to forget, is that in many ways, our relations here are bound by the same ¨rules¨ as the ones in our personal lives, what applies in our lives applies here. The opportunity to speak anonymously doesn't count for much, by now we pretty much know each other's real name, some have met, etc. So without wanting to sound preachy, here goes:

-please don't accumulate frustrations. people here have clearly kept things to themselves, letting it bubble up inside, and now the pressure cooker can't take anymore steam... speak up, whether in private or in public, speak up.

-for God's sake, respect one another. Seing others acting like morons shouldn't make you think ¨well I'll do the same then!¨...come on, Batman is an example to us. Sure he's not flawless, but this is a far cry from how he'd handle things. Let's not forget: a lot of people read these boards, but don't post. Some of them must be fairly young. Lets not aim perfection...but God damn it lets be an example to them. What we say can have a much more lasting effect on others than our latest creation, no matter how nice it is.

I guess I could go on, but you get the point, and I don't want this making me sound pretentious or something. The solution is not in trying to get along with everyone, that will never happen. Its about admitting that fact, and, when others are not up to what we expect of them, its all the more important to be up to our own expectations. To all those that read this to the end: Have you been up to your own expectations? Sometimes we say people aren't being entirely honest with us. Lets dare to be honest with ourselves.

Alright. Enough from me. Now lets fix whatever is wrong, instead of bathing in a pool of each other's animosity.

For me, this is one of the best posts in this thread.

Why all the hateful type attitudes surfacing?
Let's get over the drama in the past and let's get over ourselves.

No matter what side of the coin we're coming from in the Bat community, it's still the same coin and we're never going to find any "thriving" net space that doesn't welcome members that might disagree with others on the board.

As much as some disagree with what Warren has posted, he has remained more civil in this thread than others and I don't see why everybody that craves respect can't show it in return.

I've been around the online costuming and prop communities for quite awhile, so I've seen it all (almost- I never was around first hand for Guy Raz and a few others ).

This petty crap has got to stop.
In the big scale of things, this crap is nothing compared to the recasters, predators, posers, etc. in this hobby.

I'm getting pretty tired of seeing people doing and saying the things that they have been almost EVERYWHERE lately.

And just so everybody can get on the same page, ELITIST and PERFECTIONIST don't mean the same thing in our community.

Elitist = is not good
Perfectionist = is just fine

I'm not going to take more time in this post to explain the difference.

Bottom line is ...don't jump the gun and automatically post disdainful remarks towards people that have done everything they could do with what they have available in order to get what they wanted to achieve.

If they are in definite need of critisizing, please be constructive in doing so.

As a community, we should be here to support EVERY one of us that is giving everything that we can into our hobby. So let's be honest with our opinions, but try to remain tactful in doing so.

If we're going to "keep it real" we have to be honest and remember that we're all in it for OURSELVES and NOBODY else.
It's nice to be able to help others out and such, but let's not kid ourselves.

Even when the majority of us is helping others out, it's for our own purposes deep down.

*sighs* why does all this stuff always have to crop up no matter where I go in this hobby? Does any of this really matter? I think what really matters is that we're all here to make kick-ass Batman costumes and learn little tricks about how to do so from our brothers.-in-cowls. It doesn't really matter if it's here or at BOTB or on some other forum. It's sad, really, that right now I'd rather be on some other forum...one where this kind of thing doesn't happen.

Re: THE CAVE FOR DUMMIES

I think the last 3 posts have been very positive, and this is encouraging to see. I am not angry, and this is not drama, this is putting the truth out there because they came to my home and started poking around.

Having a keyboard is just a convenient means at this time in my life Belmont, Brin has my number and I will talk to you in person the same as I do here. In person, you may wish you were back behind your keyboard. Again, if you had taken the time to get to know me before attacking my character, you may have known that. You guys are wrong about me, and you were wrong to ban me. It is that simple.
