Re: Last time I ever use Water Based clay...
You'd be amazed how much quicker the forms come the second time around. When I restarted my 89, in a few hours I got to the same point that it took days to reach the first time.
If you've lost interest then go with what excites you now or you won't be able to give it your best effort.

Re: Last time I ever use Water Based clay...
On a side note, when it comes to doing a cast in urethane, how much do you guys find you need to do a pull for a cowl in urethane? I'm just trying to gauge how many gallons I should get. I know I won't need a whole gallon for just one cowl, but I'd like to have a decent amount of urethane on reserve for other projects.
Typically I use about 2lbs per cowl give or take. It really depends on the size of the cowl and how thick you make it. 1 Gallon will give you about 5 cowls. I wouldn't recommend buying more then a gallon at a time unless your making cowls like mad. Urethane usually has a 6 month life span and if you work out side and leave there which I don't recommend because the elements affect the stuff.

Re: Last time I ever use Water Based clay...
Thanks for the encouragement guys. I just ordered everything I need to start making urethane cowls:
- 2 Trial sizes of Rebound-25
- 1 Gallon of Plasti-Paste
- Ease Release 200
- 2 Gallons F-42 Urethane
- 4oz Black Pigment
Thank you for the info on the Urethane! 5 cowls per gallon? Wow, lol that's more than I thought! I better get busy!

Re: Last time I ever use Water Based clay...
the nightwing mask that I made to go with Carlos's suit was actually the second sculpt. The first one took me 4 hours and then it was ruined during molding by a bad batch of uncured silicone. The mask everyone knows of now took me a little less then an hour from start to spraying on release to mold it with new and improved silicone. The design also became much better the second time, and if I did it again, well I could probably do it in 15 minutes this time.
its a very funny thing about it, your so worried about getting it right the first time that you step on your own toes because of it, but the second time your so pissed about failing the first time that you don't think
BLAMMO
when you don't think you get a better sculpt!
you need to pickup some thin fiberglass matte for your jacket reinforcement, even a small sculpt like this needs a strong jacket so it will last.
5-7 cowls per gallon kit is common depending on the size of your cowl, because yours is smaller eared, and without neck links, you should get almost 10-12 cowls out of that kit.
--- And what’s ten years? Well, it’s roughly how long it takes to put in ten thousand hours of hard practice. Ten thousand hours is the magic number of greatness.

That's good to hear about sculpting it again. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna scrap this project and start fresh with a new cowl. Should be much better this time...I hope!
