uuuuuum

Yes, I made that. Its F42 with a positive cold foam backing thru the ears, neck and collar so that it not only holds it shape but it makes sure that the ears stay straight, no ear bend which is the number one thing that kills the look of a cowl.

If you look at the high res photos of the carlos dark echo, you can see the one flaw is the ears are not straight because back when I made that, I ran the ears solid. But now, I run the cowl with as much foam as possible so that it holds it shape, stays lite, and is near indestructible.

Image

I'm currently remastering that cowl and will by about the end of the month have a new mold that offers flawless copies with 75% of the cowl being foam and it being cored for a 23.5 inch head. This was my first test of that technique and it resulted in a cowl that weighted less than 1.5 pounds. But being a stupid dink, I forgot to reinforce the foam, so when I tried it on a second or third time I pulled to hard on the shoulder and put my thumb thru it and torn the neck.
My new mold will allow me to correct that mistake. Here is what is left of that cowl.

Image

I will be doing the same with Carlos's Hybrid sculpt and I will be doing the Panther as well at some point so that all my cowls are thin, lite, and they hold their shape all on their own.

To many cowls on display are dropping, they should never do this because they will warp and take on the memory of the position they sit in. And then you ruin your expensive cowl that you just love to have on display when its not being worn.

so, long story short.

yes that's my work

Nice cowl bud, hey.. your ears look straighter than mine..*cough cough* jay....lol.. O well, I'll have to get you to send me one of these foam filled suckers to see if they're as good as you make them sound. If they are, I might have to make a Begins version.

Re: My new cowl

do you have the sniffles or a cold starting there jeffery?
LOL

No, seriously......

Foam backing every single part of a suit is a great idea, it allows you to support things properly, shape tehm to the human form better, and keeps skinning materials stay thinner, and over all everything is half the weight of normal.

Martin can vouch for that since he has one of the cowls when I used to run them with solid ears and thicker overall.

This will be a must for your AA cowl and your Adams cowl because of the ear length. But by doing this even in your Begins cowl, you can make it easier and better for wear.

What I knew then and what I know now is volumes when it comes to the correct way to run a cowl. This is why I tell everyone to keep trying new things and pushing new materials and new ideas.

When you do, things like this are possible~

DO date I have only made three that have a core for your face, and that I am working on to make every cowl from now on to have that standard. But its all about the core baby!!

Yeah I got one of the first pulls of the Panther/Sonar Hybrid, Its a sweet cowl no doubt about it! Not much room 4 improvment. But this new cowl is so mutch better

1: 50% waight loss (NO BS..)
2: It holds its shape Perferkt.
3: Mutch softer.

Post Pics later of the two cowls side by side, so everyone can se the diffrence
