I'll get the full size pics off the memory card later this week. Then later I caught that darn Joker trying to pop the tires on my Bat-stang! Back to Arkham! EDIT: Oh yeah, after the event, I put the top down on the 'stang, and posed for more pics and then drove home fully suited up. I just live around the corner, so it wasn't a far drive, but I got lots of great looks from people out walking and other drivers. Several kids on my street were pretty excited too, since they usually see me driving the car but never as Batman. :bat01 nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Thu, 27 Aug 2009 00:08:11 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum suit! (New Full Pics!)https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4308,from=rss#post4308https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4308,from=rss#post4308Thanks for the feedback guys! Yeah, this was really just a last minute idea since they saw me in my full on 89 suit at the parade several months back. For mainly spending an afternoon with my spare parts, and then a day or two this past week tweaking stuff, I'm pretty pleased. Ideally, I'd get a full wrap generic muscle torso and mount it permanently to an undersuit. The strapping is convenient, but doesn't hug the body perfectly. I tried the cape over the neck piece, but it just didn't look right, since it's my Begins cape, I got a little link to hold the rings together underneath and that worked well. I'm having a custom cape made specific for this game's design. With access to the in-game models through the "trophy" mode, you can see the seam lines that run down the shoulders, and the cape itself is sewn around the edge of the cowl's neck line. When I get an actual AA cowl, that's what I plan to do. The gauntlets turned out good for starting and finishing within 24 hours (and sleeping and working a full shift during that time.) I plan to make some more accurate and THICK pieces, maybe resin. The more I play the game, the more I see little details I want to replicate and take the suit further. I'm going to redo the emblem completely and get it exact. Oh, I also have some GREAT pics from the charity food drive yesterday at the comic shop. Joker and I had some fun posing for pics. Will post them up later tonight!  :batty: nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 22:20:49 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum suit! Especially when you have already done so much. Hopefullly you will keep going and finish it off proper.nondisclosed_email@example.com (resinsamurai)Wed, 26 Aug 2009 15:02:24 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum suit! I should be able to get some pics from the event itself sometime later this week when they email them along. After I got back home, I decided to throw the cowl back on and get some fully suited up pics so I could post and show off my custom gauntlets and fins. Started on them Sunday night, and finished literally minutes before I left for the event. Need to finish up the boot armor to match the gloves, but ran out of time so I'll continue that later in the week. Going to the local comic shop today to suit up and hang out all afternoon. The Joker (from my Free Comic Book Day pics) also made an appearance and looked awesome as usual! I invited him to join our forum.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Tue, 25 Aug 2009 11:47:08 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum suit! (New torso pic!)https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4208,from=rss#post4208https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4208,from=rss#post4208Been working on my suit all day, and unfortunately didn't realize how late it is... or early... 4:30am... I've got to be at work in 4 hours. Ugh... Anyway, here's a quick "teaser" pic of the torso piece finally painted up with emblem applied: A few quick notes about how it went from the earlier pics to this -- Started as a generic latex muscle torso with black plasti-dip coating. I then added a couple thin layers of primer. Next, drew on the "seams" with a permanent marker. Then I sprayed a very thin layer of a flat gray (darker than the primer), then a couple accent layers of flat black on the edges faded in, and then up-sprayed to darken shadow areas. Next, I inserted the screws with nuts on the back. Finally, the "fabric" texture / diamond pattern was drawn on with a soft pencil. I think that turned out pretty awesome. Basically just freehand cross hatching. For the emblem, I drew half the bat on paper as a template, tested on the torso, then trimmed it out of a soft pleather. Permanent spray adhesive on the back, then carefully smoothed down to the torso. Lots more done, (Arkham Asylum styled glove armor and fins!) but I need to get some sleep. Full suit up pics tomorrow evening!nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Mon, 24 Aug 2009 06:36:32 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4056,from=rss#post4056https://bthecave.runboard.com/p4056,from=rss#post4056Both suits look amazing nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kasbek)Wed, 19 Aug 2009 00:48:37 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3913,from=rss#post3913https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3913,from=rss#post3913The suit looks great man! I wasn't sure exactly as my main contact with them so far has been through my friend who owns the local comic shop in town and organizes most of the charity events I participate in. He had mentioned her as "owner" before, which I thought was odd since I didn't think they franchised, but he clarified that she is the manager. Oddly enough, she told him yesterday evening that the game's release was pushed back to Sept. 8th. I disputed this because nowhere online has it listed any different than Aug. 25th, and I assume when the official demo came out and has that date plastered throughout, it's a firm date. Even GameStop's web site still has Aug. 25th, so I don't know where she got her info on the delay unless they plan to announce it all over the internet today. I just don't see that happening this close to release and not a single mention of a new delay anywhere online. (As of last night at least, haven't looked again today.) nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Thu, 13 Aug 2009 14:23:38 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3822,from=rss#post3822https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3822,from=rss#post3822Just curious... Because I've worked for GameStop off and on since it was Funcoland in 2000... How is this guy you know the owner? They don't franchise. All stores are corperate run. This is without the AA seam/rivet/emblem pencil lines enhanced in Photoshop (you can still sort of see them drawn on the armor) but I tried it with a Returns emblem. I just wish the neck piece was lined up properly. nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Thu, 13 Aug 2009 02:44:14 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3791,from=rss#post3791https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3791,from=rss#post3791Yep, the owner of our local GameStop has asked me to appear in costume for the event which we are coordinating with a charity of some kind. I think they'll be quite surprised that I worked on an all new suit just for their event, and I hope to add more accurate details over the next couple weeks to get it closer to the game's suit. One thing that is a big disadvantage with the gray tights -- they show sweat a lot worse than with black tights... Luckily, the rubber armor covers almost all the visible area but I'm trying to figure out how to do the knees better. The edge of the rubber armor stands out against the gray tights more-so than it did when it was black on black too.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Wed, 12 Aug 2009 12:53:53 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3764,from=rss#post3764https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3764,from=rss#post3764Well done! I hear you're also putting one together? Can't wait to see how it turns out. I'm hoping to add more accurate details and accessories over the next couple weeks. Last night I stopped at the hardware store and picked up some screws that I think will work very nicely on the armor. But first I need to darken it a bit and pin stripe in the seam lines. I'm almost thinking airbrushing the shadows might work well to darken it, but it's been a long time since I've worked with my airbrush and would hate to screw it up with so much else to do and such little time before the game's release.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Tue, 11 Aug 2009 14:59:13 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3750,from=rss#post3750https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3750,from=rss#post3750As a fan of this suit, I think you've done an exceptional job. Not sure if they were different prior to that run or not. But I love them. Great gloves. As for the chest, yes, I definitely agree. The strap that goes around the neck is too long so no matter how much I pull up on it, it slides back down. This actually works well when I used this torso for my 89 suit, since it had room for the emblem and cowl to overlap the cape properly, but when it doesnt have as much cape/cowl overlap, it looks quite large. I have a spot of velcro where the emblem attaches, and if I put velcro on the Inferno neck piece, that would help hold up the chest in better position but would raise the cape up further. So I'm going to redo the strapping all together. I think the new neck I'm sculpting will also help offset the big chest look too. That is if I can get it done, molded and cast in time for the game's premiere. Well, in any event, I'm having so much fun with this costume, I'm sure I'll continue building on it and improving it even after the game's release.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Mon, 10 Aug 2009 19:28:33 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3726,from=rss#post3726https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3726,from=rss#post3726I could swear the gloves nitestar has up on his site (superherogloves.com) dont have the suede finger. Did he recently fix that? Because they never had the accurate finger, thats what kept me from buying a pair years ago. Well, that, and the ribs on the back of the hand not being at an angle. Kinda why i'e been looking for a pair of Daividyr1 gloves, cuz they are exact copies. Fill me in if you will on these nitestar gloves you have. -Kevin P.S. If I can make one suggestion on your suit... Pull the chest up a little bit. But it's coming along nicely. Several new pieces I'll probably start building, and will be sculpting latex hand armor to go over the 89 gloves to make them appear more like the in-game gloves. The suede is all part of the original 89 gloves. These are awesome and I'd highly recommend them to anyone wanting 89 gloves. Mine are size Large, so the only thing I might change is going to Medium since the fingers are a bit big on me. I'm also going to tweak the chest emblem a bit more before I paint the final one on. Looking at it from different angles, it looks a bit different and I think I sketched this one a bit too wide and thin, but not bad for freehanding it with a pencil. nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Mon, 10 Aug 2009 12:54:20 +0000 Re: Kreator's Arkham Asylum inspired suit!https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3709,from=rss#post3709https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3709,from=rss#post3709Question... (New Event Pics)https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3692,from=rss#post3692https://bthecave.runboard.com/p3692,from=rss#post3692Well, I've been planning on throwing something like this together for a while, and today seemed like an appropriate time. Parts Used: I picked up some basic gray primer and put down a few light coats over my old plasti-dipped latex Artsee1 generic muscle armor. Once dried, I penciled on the emblem, "seams" and "rivets" from the game. Wearing an inkmonkey black lycra undersuit, then Eastbay gray compression tights over that. Then the latex armor facade is strapped on for the legs and torso. Eastbay black trunks over that. For the belt, I'm using Inferno's RD urethane Begins belt. Cowl is the classic Inferno cowl and neck piece - the cowl's forehead is as close to the Arkham Asylum game forehead as any cowl out there. Will need to trim the square edge of the neck piece a bit to get an accurate shape. Will also be adding a lycra dive hood to fill in the neck/cowl gap which isn't visible in the photo, but does appear from other angles. Cape is my own Begins walking cape, with a high quality moleskin fabric. Gloves are Nitestar 89 gloves with resin armor plates. Boots (not pictured) are Gotham 100s with DavidYR1 leather 89 boot armor applied. For the picture, I used Photoshop to enhance the pencil lines and emblem I drew on the torso itself. I'll get more pics once I paint those on later in the week. I took quite a few pics, but this was the only one that came out good enough to post. And being that my house has no AC and it was 90 in here, plus I'm taking the pics myself with a timer, and my cats are freaking crazy, and then to top it off my camera battery was dead and I was charging between pics..... this was not a fun photo shoot. I'm just glad I got one that works. Anyway, there's quite a bit more I want to do with this, but for one afternoon of work, I think it's looking pretty nice.nondisclosed_email@example.com (The Kreator)Mon, 10 Aug 2009 01:47:32 +0000
