Re: Regardless of what anyone says: The 89 folding Batarang was DOUBLE sided.
:stick:
lol Calm down, guys. I'm just screwing with the guy. I'm not being serious. It was all in good fun/humor. It's not like I'm even doing horrible but correcting his grammar.
Maybe the score was board was a little much, but, I just didn't appreciate him coming in like telling me I was wrong i have posted definitive proof it was 2 sided. They proved him wrong at BTOB, too.
All I was doing was trying to help.
@Guido:
Yes, you're right. You have came up with some very nice props. I agree with you. They are some of the best out, and possibly the only ones besides SD Studios non-working Grappling Gun, out there. I applaud you for that
But just because of that doesn't mean you know EVERYTHING about the '89 props. I was trying to help out and you shot me down. Like I said up there, I was trying to help.
And I collect props and prop replicas. I never claimed to make anything. So I don't understand why thats even part of the conversation, sir.

Re: Regardless of what anyone says: The 89 folding Batarang was DOUBLE sided.
I did see the props clip that showed what seemed to be a double sided bat rang, but in the movie itself, it was very clear the rang that was thrown by Batman in the rooftop scene, was a single sided piece.
After 4-5 years of this 89 Batman stuff, I've come to realize there was never really just one version of anything that had to do with that suit. They created a bunch of props, capes, cowls and suits which they experimented with different paints, different shapes, sizes and modifications to suit the needs of the film makers, depending on the scenario.
That's why in many screen shots, the cowl looks slightly different in size due to different levels of shrinkage (some shots it looks big and puffy around Keaton's face, in others, it looks smaller) etc. The belt also had different types of yellows/metallic gold paint depending on the scene shot. And I'm assuming they did this so they would get the best color for the scenario where the room was either very dark or bright. In some scenes the belt looks straight out yellow while in others, like after the batwing crashed, it was obviously gold (you can clearly see the metallic reflection in the blue ray disc on a 1080p 55 inch, lol).
In the Herb Ritts photo shoot, the belt looks in between gold with a bit of yellow and maybe bronze/greenish tone, depending on how the photo was processed/edited. Some pics of the same shoot, it would seem someone had edited the photo, giving the colors more saturation or desaturated with a hint of hue modifications.
I recall an interview posted on BatmanOnline with Dave Lea or it could have been the one with Vin B on Paul's post over at the BOTB, where they mentioned they experimented with the colors on belts. It may have started out with one type of an automotive paint tone, but then modified with a coat of this or that...who knows. It's a damn mystery exactly what was used.
But it makes sense to me, considering many movie productions do the same thing with their props.
I gave up trying to find out the exact colors myself.
Just tried to get everything to look as close as possible to the movie or photoshoot. And that should be good enough.
The 89 suit is a great relic in movie history, in my opinion. That's why I never bothered to pursue any other bat suits. I only cared for the 89. 89 all the way baby. :batty:

They are two different batarangs.
1. The folding double sided batarang is the hero batarang used specifically for the close-up shot to show the folding action on screen.
2. The batarang that is thrown is used specifically for just that, and it's a one-sided, one-piece batarang that cannot fold. The studio lights even reflects on the one-piece flat shiny resin surface. See screenshots below.

that specific shot with the batarang has always gotten my attention because it reflected the light. i always thought that side of it was silver until i got into the hobby. i wonder if it was done on purpose to get attention, or might have been a mere coincidence.

Re: Regardless of what anyone says: The 89 folding Batarang was DOUBLE sided.
that shot always bugged me because they did nothing but paint the damn thing. No sanding, no filling, just paint
so there low spots, high spots, drips and bubbles.
LOL
ahh movie magic!
