Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
eden, ace.
thanks for the submissions.
Good news, Inferno has agreed to be a judge, who better?
Guys, push your imaginiations on this, lets see if we can come up with something alittle different that what we have seen before.
maybe and armoured cowl? or demonic, futuristic, steampunk. Lets really push those creative buttons.
Ill post a couple myself later too

Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
resinsamuri,
are these your illustrations? if so, top work.
the rubies is a good example of what not to do but i think thats obvious.
I dont do things cheap and fast, sculpting takes time and for something like this, precision too. I am of the belief that do it properly or not at all.
heres an example of the last thing i sculpted where symmetry was concerned

Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
Hi Guys.
Jeff and I have been discussing this and we thought it best that we put a deadline on this project to hopefully give you guys somethig to aim for and to help prevent this concept falling off the map.
So deadline to post your designs is the last day of July.
After this date myself, jeff and Kevin will decide on teh winnig design and we will announce the winner. I will them proceed to sculpt the cowl with regular updates.
So, you all have no excuses, dont worry about your drawing skills and dont be shy, as long as your image can sell the design, thats good enough.
Lets see if we can make this a sucess

Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
Thanks for inviting me to judge. I am honored actually.
I have seen many "freebies" given away as part of contests on boards. I have even been on the giving end. But this is the most unique contest and coolest prize that I have seen yet.
Rich is an incredibly gifted sculptor and overall great guy so I cannot wait to see how this all turns out.
Get those submissions in fellas! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
Dude, awesome!! I'm working on a tactical suit for halloween, and could absolutely use a custom cowl. I'm a crappy artist, but I'll try and draw up something to submit. My concept is basically a cowl similar to the Jim lee style, with armor segments along the top outside of the cowl. It would also have a harder shell surrounding the eye area, of a darker black than the rest of the cowl. If I do it myself I'll probably cut a Rubies begins cowl along the jaw line, and attach it to a balaclava to allow full head movement. I also thought about doing a cowl attached to a cape, where the cape comes up like a turtle neck, then the cowl is only from the nose up, so it's attached to the cape in the back, and you pull it over like TAS, so that the high neck of the cape and the cowl top combine to form one cowl.

"Because he *is* Batman you moron!"

Re: Custom "The Cave" Cowl?
no those sketches are both by professional artists.
one is bret booth and I can remember who the second one
was done by.
nice ironman, your colors look a bit off compared to the original, but that could be the lighting. your brass needs to be brushed down and you'll look that much closure to the hero. I spent a couple days with two of the hero suits and if you sculpt that all from scratch, your helmet is the closest I have seen of all the fan made ones.
somewhere I have photos of the original ironman cowl and neck sculptures that were done by teves a SWS. I'll
look around for them if you like.
I'd like to believe that you would think the rubies suit is wrong, but there are still countless people out there thinking its the most amazing thing possible. And its crap, but there will always be those that love crap.
For me, I demand the design to be built on real world principles, even though they can be bent slightly (LOL Just heard the matrix line in the back of my head) as they were in say the panther cowl were neck muscles are real but embellished, same with the rest of the suit.
You name any amazing sculpture of character and you'll see that to be true. Another great example of this is Markus from Underworld 2. Yes he is a BAT but all of his changes are embellishments of real anatomy. Same with Drakula in Blade III. Both of those are sculpted by Steve Wang BTW.
I'm sure you get the point I'm making
