Want to fix an 89/Returns Belt
Hey guys. Honestly, I have a belt I got from Mr. JC (not Jesus) that came with my suit. Unfortunately, much to my shagrin, it had that stupid pit in the center button most 89/Returns belt replicas have (I still dont understand why, but whatever). So I got to thinking, since I have a clean cast resin copy of the buckle (kinda funny I got that from him too, but he could never get around to fixing the belt he offered by replacing the buckle) I was thinking possibly doing a future project of making a mold of the belt, making a plaster copy to fix the imperfections and remolding it with the new buckle. It'd give me something to do while i wait for HW to do another buckle run. Hypothetically speaking, how much would you'se guys think it would cost in materials? I know silicone is expensive, but would caulking silicone work as long as i use the right kind and a release agent?

Re: Want to fix an 89/Returns Belt
It has been done that way. I either watched a video or read about in on FXLab. If you really want it to come out right you would be better off investing in silicone and making a resin master to get it perfect. Or at least real silicone when molding the master.
Definitely read up on it as you need to treat the molding process differently.
Good luck and post pics when you do it

Re: Want to fix an 89/Returns Belt
There's an easier way, NWB. First of all, the button depression was present in one of the real-deal molds, but J got a better prototype buckle without the problem.
You can apply epoxy glue, after it begins to set up, onto the urethane button with a spackling knife. Epoxy bonds fine with the urethane. Brushed Brass pigment from Burman Industries (call them) is what he uses, and you can mix it into the epoxy. After it sets up, you can sand and finish with very fine wet-or-dry sandpaper. If you're queasy about this, experiment with the brass-mixed epoxy first.
Burman Industries

Re: Want to fix an 89/Returns Belt
order your brushed brass from crestline directly instead of the hacks at burmans, plus I doubt they have any in stock any ways, I was there two weeks ago to get something and I asked about some buckskin pigment and they had next to nothing on hand because they don't stock anything anymore
plus why I am down on them is the F42 I bought from them had about 10% crystalline buildup because they
dont check their stock and it had obviouslly been there a long time
burmans is not what it used to be
LOL
but a funny story, alex the main guy that worked there taking orders, an asshole buddy of JC's just finally got fired for all the back handed stealing deals that he facilitated there, deals I know JC took advantage of several times
LOL
so when they told me that his ass was fired, I wasn't shocked to hear that the "GREAT" material deals that JC used to get from them weren't on the level apparently

Re: Want to fix an 89/Returns Belt
and the buckle with the dent in it is an 89 buckle
and the perfect buckle that most guys have is a repaired
89
but, for a few people like myself, we have perfect copies of the returns buckle that has no dents in it, and that is slightly smaller then the 89
they adjusted the size of the buckle slightly from 1 to 2
but in height not width, thats why the straps from both belts are identical
I've been in front of both hero belts and I have copies of both as well as henrys buckle which was mastered from a studio copy
