Urethane/Foam Latex Cowl Comparison
In case anyone missed it, I posted this at BOTB. I know there are some guys that just don't go there too. Lately I've been fascinated with foam latex, and just got a cowl from our friend Bob. Since I have his cowl in urethane and foam latex, I thought I'd do a comparison. Both cowls come from the same exact sculpt, but in this you can see what happens to the sculpt when the piece is ran in foam.

The most notable diffence is the crown of the head, it is noticably taller in the urethane version. The whole cowl is smaller, but that is the biggest size difference in my opinion. My hat is off to Bob for all the work this must have taken, and all the trial and error it took to get the final foam product to look like the movie cowl.
Other than proportions, the big difference is the feel of the material. It doesn't feel like wearing a rubber floormat on your head, more like wearing a ski mask. If Bale thought his foam suit was uncomfortable, he needs to try some urethane or slip latex sometime. :lol Since the foam cowl is made with a core in the mold, it feels like a second skin, instead of simply wearing a rubber shell. Some facial expressions can translate through it, like moving your eyebrows up and down.
When I have a little more time, I'll show what the inside of the cowl looks like, if anyone is interested. I "think" its a Bale head negative inside, from what I can tell of the nose.
I am so very pleased with this cowl.

I'm scared of foam for durability, but it sure looks nice.
Does Bob imbed mesh inside the stress areas of the cowl?

Yes it does have mesh inside, I had to look but you can see the edges of the mesh coming out where he trimmed the excess after demolding it. Ill get inside pics up tomorrow, or as soon as possible. I will try to get a shot of the mesh, but don't know if the camera can focus that closely. The mesh is super fine.

Re: Urethane/Foam Latex Cowl Comparison
I figured Bob did put the mesh in, and that will keep it nice and strong.
Big thumbs up!

The foam latex looks great on you, and must feel wonderful. That's my goal. One day, get a foam piece. I don't care if it is a single kneecap, or a chest, but that's my goal

Re: Urethane/Foam Latex Cowl Comparison
If only we could feel it though the computer screen. Thats the big difference is the feel, its just so different. It was different from what I expected before I got it, but not too much different. Its really neat stuff. It doesn't feel how it looks, I guess is the strangest thing about it.
Eden, just get a foam knee or something, you have to experience it.
