Ok truth be told when it came to your sonar you are correct. I wouldn't challenge that. I never had one in person but it was an impressive looking piece in pics,

Re: What can we do about this board?

As I recall it took me more than a year to get to the point where I was happy enough with it, so there are copies from me out there that are all rubber, with ears that should be filled or that are so the weight adds to cowl instead of using polyfoam ear cores

you have to start somewhere, and work your ass off to keep progressing, but thats rarely what happens, 99% of the guys in the hobby are just trying to get from one project to the next and just make money instead of doing even the simply things like double molding and bodyshopping so the piece stands the chance of looking clean.

I've spent 6-7000 this year on silicone alone because we double mold everything so that the finally mold is library worthy.

I've spent the last year remastering the batgirl suit
I've spent the last year working with Johann on the colors for the Begins/TDK/TDKR belt and assesories so he can be as accurate as possible
I've spent the last two years working on the RedRobin cowl and emblem so that when its done its the coolest thing I've ever done.

No rushing, no mass production, nothing but research, study, practise and more practise to refine my abilities to a proper professional level

The next year will yield things from me and my crew that took nearly 10 years to bring to fruition and will have little to no room for improvement......

well of course a little room~

And what’s ten years? Well, it’s roughly how long it takes to put in ten thousand hours of hard practice. Ten thousand hours is the magic number of greatness.

DELETED - My Apologies Jaime.

I reacted in anger after reading your post (Combination of anger and disappointment) I normally do not partake in negative posts...

I suppose none of us are perfect (As I have just proven.)

This is unacceptable.

It's one thing to razz a guy a bit in an attempt to get him to improve but I feel this is a bit more personal and You should take this to private messages or email.

This is a basement hobby for even those who claim to be pro's. I don't expect perfect interiors nor have I ever seen one, even from the top makers. Have a bit more tact in the future and please edit your post of any disparaging comments.

Re: What can we do about this board?

Short of material failure due to using out of date materials, or an impurity any pulled piece should last on display for a lifetime.

After that abusing the piece can lead to failure

After that maker error that lead to a point of failure

After that fatigue from use as no material holds out indefinitely from use, not even steel lasts under repeated use.

All of that needs to be understood and acknowledged even in the garage~

LOL

I've got pieces that are still holding up after 7 years
even under heavy use, though they will of course have rips and tears in them from fatigue. Carlos's sonar is a great example of that, he wears it more than any other sonar I know being worn and that back muscles of the armpits took the first sign of fatigue and then the throat of the collar..... all are repairable of course and nothing that diminishes from its overall appearance.

The key to some of the longevity is making the armor move like real muscle does, that can be accomplished by laying in powernet in key areas and in very very specific shapes do facilitate correct flex and flow. Just laying in powernet isn't going to do that, you need to understand anatomy and muscle movement to have it have any lasting effect and to keep it from prematurely destroying a piece.

Cowls need linings to add in strength to the areas that will take the heaviest stress, which is always when you put it on. Put that mesh in incorrectly of skip it, then your cowl is going to tear very very early because your only bond is the cross hatching of the material, so its only time before the stress breaks that bond and your crying over torn cowls.

Ears have to be filled, either with hard or soft foam, not rubber! Rubber will create an artificial dimple impression in the cowl where that ear can flex, plus it makes you look dumb. So giving the inside of the cowl the correct shape of the head is key. Absolutely no pooling of materials in the top of the head.

These are absolutely the basics and why so many garage guys need to get out of the hobby long before they got in. You can't go from sculpt or print to mold to pull to sales until you have worked with the materials and tested fit and function for a few months to know your pieces, when where and why they will fail, because they will fail, before you let someone else have a single copy of your work.

As always the route of everything is patience and practice wrapped up tightly in knowledge.

If you don't have that you suck, your work sucks and your doomed to failure and people being pissed off and disappointed.

It will take some practise to find the right amount and shape since you have no core mold to make and insert them, but once you get it figured out it will make things a lot better for fit and flex of the ears.
