Special Undersuit Material for Panther Suits

Hello Fellow Batfans

My next suit will be a Panther, and from all the pics that I have seen, this is the blackest batsuit out there for sure.

I got myself a Panther cowl not too long ago and I was amazed at how black it was. Armor pieces in general tend to look greyish black in appearance but not this cowl. Definitely the blackest cowl that I have ever seen.

I knew from the beginning that in order for the suit to look proper, a new type of rubber material needed to be found or else I would not have gone through with this project. Regular Neoprene just didn't cut it anymore. After a couple months of research, I am finally able to present to you guys my all new Panther Black Neoprene. Check it out:

Re: Special Undersuit Material for Panther Suits

Just a reminder, the Panthers were all painted metalic black, never raw, in fact of all the batshop undersuits floating around, and there are 5 or 6 of them in my studio right now, every single one is painted ebcause they painted the neo prior to aseembly for Forever....... not as much for B&R, then its like 75% on Clooney and 50% on Robin and I have no idea on BG because I've only ever seen three of them and all had the armor mounted and in near perfect shape.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Your going to no maaaaaaaaaaaaaater what have a matching issue because urethane is translucent and neoprene is not, and the sheen of the Pris pieces is a little higher than the semi of average neo.

I can tell you you need to keep searching because the two other neoprene you show next to the batshop must be waaaay to thin, along the lines of .5mm??? because the nylon is showing thru them. Its 1mm originally.

In fact that reminds me more of the specialized fabric of the returns. So its cool for other things, just not the the panther~

Lastly, the panther was only shiny for a few scenes when they polished it with silicone oil, rest of the time its semigloss

All that crap said, I love your dedication to this!
Keep the faith brother!!!

OK, my production-made undersuit is not painted or I am not able to tell. It's a Robin, not sure if that has anything to do with it. It doesn't look like pure neo rubber either.

I am doing all this because I don't want to paint my suit. I want it to match as good as it can with materials that are out there. If I would use regular neo, the color would be way off. In my case, this neo works best for what I am after.

In my case, my neo is shinier than Piriss' cowl. You can't really see it on the pics. I will remedy that by polishing the entire suit when all is done. Silicone oil might be just the thing. I'll look into that.

Nope, 2mm and 1.5mm. My Panther neo is micro textured.

In fact that reminds me more of the specialized fabric of the returns. So its cool for other things, just not the the panther~

I have the Returns fabric here and while similar, my Panther neo is a tad shinier.

Lastly, the panther was only shiny for a few scenes when they polished it with silicone oil, rest of the time its semigloss.

Exactly what I am after. I want to have that version of the suit. I love the polished and glossy look of it.

Based on your photo showing the batshop undersuit, its painted because the mica pigments are reflecting back,
so its not raw. Raw 1mm smoothskin is duuuuuuull black with not metallic to it.

I've no issue with your choice in fabric, I think its cool and suggest you go with the 1.5 because 2mm even on a cold day is going to have you heating up fast.

Mica powder is used for neoprene making. Some companies use more some less.

All my neo that I have here at home show traces of Mica. They can't be all painted, can they??The Panther Black neo is 1.5mm.

Can I use any brand of Silicone Oil or does it have to be something specific?? I was thinking about this one here:

Mica is a general term for powder pigments.

No they can't all be painted, it really comes down I think to the amount of titanium in the mix, to much and it doesn't allow anything to bond to it after cure. Either that or the oil content could also inhibit the cure of post cure additions.

1.0-1.5 depending on the suit it seams they used a little of both back then. My RedRobin undersuit is 1.5 as well but all the panthers are 1.0-1.25 at best.

Back in the 90's there was less consistency compared to now. All tech and materials progress. Hell just a couple years ago we used to be told that ordering .5 was hit or miss but now its easy to find.

That has the word grease in it so I'm going to say no.
This would be along the same lines.

But you only need a spoonful to polish a full suit, and so I would suggest skipping it and going with armor all. One of the primary ingredients in armor all is silicone oil. Plus UV stabilizers. I prefer the detailers formula because it cleans and polishes more than shines.... if you want shine go with the original formula and use a few soft horse hair brush.

So Armor All... Good for urethane but bad for latex? Is that my understanding?
