I've had mine on and off about 10 times. No tears, I just pull it on slowly by gripping the thick sections in the neck. Lots of baby powder.

In case it ever tore, Bob told me to get some Barge shoe glue, put a drop on the end of a pin, and put it in the tear. Let the cowl rest in its natural state so the tear will close. He said the tear shouldn't be noticable.

Mine has no damage so far except where my cape clips rub.
