How vulnerable are foam cowls?

Hey guys

just tried my foam cowl on for the first time and while putting it on, the foam "tore" slightly in 2 places . Is this a common thing with foam cowls?
is there a 'special' way of putting these things on/ taking them off?

To my knowledge its not that common, Even the screen used cowls i have seen are often in good condition and with no rips.

When i put on a foam cowl it slides right on, Is there a chance you maybe stressed the wrong areas of the cowl while putting it on or off?

sheesh i dont think so, I'm super carefull with the thing as is. put my hands inside on the mesh to get it over my head, and then once on i adjusted the neck for fit and the foam seperated where my thumb was placed

That is very odd, It might help if you post pictures of the tears. Im sure Bob will be able to answer your question better.

Surface tears like this are bound to happen when it comes to foam latex. This looks like a Bob foam latex cowl and even though his foam cowl's are tough, in the end, this is something that can happen. The power net that is on the inside of the cowl, will prevent it from ripping completely apart, but in the end it's foam and surface rips are always possible.. in fact, highly likely. My foam latex cowl did the exact same thing in the neck area and the foam latex torso I had, did the same thing.

Yeah it is one of Bobs. Can it be fixed though?

I spoke with Bob a few months back about one of his flawed cowls where he managed to fill a bigish airhole with latex (whether this was of the liquid or foam variety i dont know). is it possible to use latex to mend the tear. The tears are only noticeable if you flex the foam. as it stands on display it is not noticeable at all.

I have a flawed foam Begins cowl from Bob. I've got some areas on it that he kindly filled in with latex. There are some areas on my cowl that have little "tears" but nothing major.

Bob did say to make sure you line the inside with baby powder and put it on and take it off very slowly as to avoid ripping. I make sure to take it slow, but for the most part, the cowl slips right on and off with ease.

Baby powder the hell out of it when putting it on.. and "palm" it on. Never use finger tips to grip it.

KNOCK on wood-- mine is still perfect.

Bummer Neil, maybe ask Bob in his section, he might be able to post a fix so others that have the same problem can reference it in the future.
